From Stressed to Blessed: A Shift in Perspective
Last week, I was having a morning. The kids were home from school, my husband was home from work, the dog was barking, and the house was a mess. All I could see was the mess. All I could hear was the noise. I felt crowded and overwhelmed.
I was short with everyone and just not pleasant to be around. And honestly, it didn’t feel pleasant being me in that moment.
Gabe was invited to a friend’s place in the marina, so I drove him over there. As soon as I stepped out of the car, smelled the ocean, took in the water, and BREATHED, I immediately felt better.
Self-mastery isn’t about never losing your cool. It’s about how quickly you are able to get back to your center.
On this particular morning, it took me a little longer than usual—a clear sign that I hadn’t been filling my cup and my batteries were low. When my battery is depleted, I am not able to use my tools as effectively.
Loving yourself means paying attention to how you are feeling and scheduling time for yourself. When I pay attention to my needs and honor them, my battery doesn’t get as low, and I am a more present and joyful mom, wife, friend, and human in general!
On this particular morning, a change of scenery did wonders for my Spirit and my nervous system. I stayed after dropping off my son and went for a 45-minute solo walk around the marina. I began noticing all the glimmers! I had loved myself back into alignment—albeit after just a little bit of resistance. :)
It was the reset I needed, and for the rest of the day, it felt good being me.
And that’s where we want to be!
Of course, I want to be the best version of myself for my children and the people I love. But I also want to be the best version of myself for me—because I deserve it.
I deserve to live a joyful, peaceful, and embodied life.
And so do you!
If you, too, find that you have lost perspective, try stepping out of your environment and changing the scenery. For me, the shift was almost instantaneous. I dropped back into gratitude and felt immense appreciation for my life.
The house was still messy. Life was still life.
But suddenly, my mess felt blessed.
Perspective is everything.
