Glimmers
In this week’s Spiritual Espresso class, we began with an exercise from Sonia Choquette. You set a timer and list as many things as you can think of that your Spirit loves to do.
I love this exercise because it immediately helps you tap into your joy and align with what lights you up. For me, doing at least one thing each day simply because it brings me joy is nonnegotiable. The more I practice this, the more I begin to notice the beauty and magic in the ordinary moments of the day. I realize that ordinary moments are extraordinary when we are truly present for them.
After class, I took my little fur baby, Rocky, for a walk around the neighborhood, and I saw butterflies and hummingbirds literally everywhere. The flowers were in full bloom—so colorful and fragrant. The greens were greener, the trees were divine, and the way the sunlight filtered through the branches made me feel as though I had stepped into a magical land.
My ordinary neighborhood walk truly felt extraordinary.
While this certainly isn’t the case for every walk, the experience reminded me to slow down and be present where I am. It doesn’t take more time to be present; it takes intention.
I am going into this week feeling inspired to be more intentional with my attention. When I notice that I am back in my head, I look for the glimmers—the hummingbirds, the butterflies, the sunlight dancing through the trees—which serve as divine reminders to feel my feet on the ground and activate this Zen saying:
“Smile, breathe, and go slowly.”
